Chapter 11

Updated: Jul 1, 2018

The Bedford Book of Genre explores research techniques within chapter 11. This chapter dissects the process of picking a research topic. One section that I thought was very helpful was the section labeled “Commit to a single Topic”. This section provided insight on how to pick a topic of my interest. The previous section outlined the ways in which you could pick a topic that interested you. This section stood out to me because it explored the steps into committing to a single topic. It gave me questions to ask myself whether the topic was feasible. By answering these questions provided by the text, I was able to understand how to commit to a single topic. Before reading this section, I did not know that time played a crucial role into committing to a single topic. By understanding the deadline of an assignment, I would be able to see whether or not the topic was feasible. Throughout the chapter, Amy Braziller uses a girl Jasmine Huerta as an example of the research process. Braziller includes questions in which Jasmine answers. Her responses are helpful because it shows a realistic view of the research process and how to pick a research topic. Jasmine talks about her interests in her topic and why she would like to research it. By reading her responses I was able to have a better grasp on how to commit to a topic.
